hirify.global Defence and Space develops complex optical instruments and space payloads for institutional and commercial customers, covering feasibility, development, manufacturing, testing, and in-orbit commissioning.

What you will do

• Perform optical instrument performance analysis, budgeting, and mathematical modelling.
• Maintain performance budgets using as-built parameters in collaboration with project teams, subcontractors, and technical disciplines.
• Develop data-processing algorithms and tools for performance simulation and test-data evaluation.
• Specify, prepare, and execute instrument characterisation and calibration test campaigns.
• Analyse technical requirements, break them down to subsystems, and evaluate alternative instrument concepts and design solutions.
• Develop innovative optical instrument concepts and enabling technologies through modelling and performance simulation.

Requirements

• Academic degree in Physics or Engineering; a Ph.D. is welcome.
• Good understanding of optical instruments, technical optics, opto-mechanics, photonics, and detection.
• Hands-on experience developing, setting up, and operating optical and photonic systems.
• Experience with optical instrument data-processing chains, from raw measurements to final products.
• Advanced scientific computing skills, including Python, and proficiency in AI-assisted workflows.
• Excellent communication skills, flexibility, agility, and a structured working style for a multinational environment.

Nice to have

• Understanding of quantum technologies.
• Experience using scientific data products.
• Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering.
