Assistant Professor/Associate Professor & Director - Counseling (Play Therapy)

Location: Commerce, Texas, with teaching and clinical responsibilities at university campuses in Commerce, Dallas, and Plano

What you will do

• Develop a productive research program in play therapy, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and external funding applications.
• Teach two courses each fall and spring semester across undergraduate and graduate levels through online and face-to-face instruction.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and direct or serve on doctoral dissertation committees.
• Direct the Play Therapy & Expressive Arts Center, overseeing operations, staff and graduate assistants, budgeting, services, and community partnerships.
• Design and deliver play therapy coursework, continuing education, training, practicum, and clinical experiences.
• Contribute to departmental, university, and professional counseling service, outreach, advocacy, and accreditation activities.

Requirements

• Doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program, or an alternative qualifying doctoral pathway specified in the posting.
• Membership in the Association for Play Therapy and credentials as an LPC-S and RPT-S, or eligibility with a commitment to obtain them within the first year.
• Academic experience appropriate to the appointment rank, with evidence of or potential for play therapy scholarship and effective undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• Sustained professional engagement through counseling organization membership, ongoing counseling practice, professional development, and service.
• Knowledge of counseling and play therapy standards, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel to all university instruction sites.
• Tenured Associate Professor candidates must meet the department's tenure and promotion criteria during the hiring process.

Nice to have

• Graduate teaching experience in a CACREP-accredited program.
• Experience teaching counseling courses online synchronously and asynchronously.
• Previous clinical director experience in a counseling center.
• Familiarity with CACREP standards and accreditation processes.
• Experience chairing or co-chairing dissertation committees.
