Professional Engineer - Water/Wastewater

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia, United States; travel throughout Virginia is required. Employees residing in AK, AR, CA, CT, DE, HI, KY, MA, RI, VT, and PR cannot currently be hired. Candidates willing to relocate should indicate this in the application.

Base compensation: $115,000–$150,000 annually, based on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Lead and support water and wastewater infrastructure projects from planning through construction.
• Develop solutions for treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, pump and lift stations, storage facilities, and utility improvements.
• Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing, quality, and client coordination.
• Prepare engineering reports, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and related technical deliverables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support business development, and mentor emerging professionals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer license required; Virginia PE preferred or obtainable within six months.
• 8+ years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure planning, design, and construction support.
• Experience with multidisciplinary project delivery, project management, utility design standards, treatment systems, conveyance infrastructure, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, plus a valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Virginia.
• Must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience with Virginia municipalities, utilities, or industrial water and wastewater clients.
• Hydraulic modeling software and industry-standard design tools.
• Utility master planning, asset management, capital improvement planning, or resilience studies.
• Proposal development, business development, and established Virginia water/wastewater market relationships.
• Participation in AWWA, WEF, ACEC, APWA, or similar professional organizations.
