TL;DR
HSS - Linux System Administrator (Linux) (Linux/Unix infrastructure): Supporting and maintaining mission-critical Linux systems with an accent on incident resolution, system monitoring, documentation, and service improvement. Focus on troubleshooting root causes, implementing ITIL-based processes, and automating infrastructure with Bash, Ansible, and related tools.
Location: Cheltenham, United Kingdom; 5 days on site. Candidates must have the right to work in the United Kingdom and meet applicable UK Government and contractual personnel security, residency, and possible nationality requirements.

What you will do
- Provide first- and second-level technical support for incidents and problems.
- Monitor system performance and maintain reliable system functionality.
- Create, maintain, and use technical documentation.
- Implement standards, policies, and procedures for continual service improvement.
- Support compliance with operational processes and policies.
Requirements
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- Experience working according to ITIL best practices.
- Proactive approach to identifying risks, problems, and root causes.
- Ability to collaborate, share knowledge, and learn from others.
- Eligibility to meet applicable UK Government and contractual personnel security and residency requirements, with the right to work in the United Kingdom.
Nice to have
- Experience with UNIX/Linux systems, including Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, or AIX.
- Shell scripting with Bash or KornShell, plus scripting with Python or Git.
- Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef.
- Networking, filesystems, performance monitoring, AWS, virtualization, and container technologies.
