Controls Applications Engineer (HVAC) (Building Automation): Designing hardware and software solutions for small building automation systems in HVAC projects with an accent on control systems, installation documentation, and project cost requirements. Focus on reviewing mechanical plans, creating sequences of operation and as-built documentation, conducting site surveys, and transitioning designs to field and service teams.

Location: Tempe, Arizona, United States; onsite Monday through Thursday, with flexible work location on Fridays

Salary: $72,928.33–$101,570.00 annual base salary range; exception hourly compensation

What you will do

  • Design comfort control and building automation systems for HVAC projects.
  • Review mechanical plans, specifications, estimates, equipment submittals, and contract documents.
  • Develop installation and submittal drawings, sequences of operation, and other project documentation.
  • Conduct site surveys within the district to determine appropriate controls solutions.
  • Transition design documents to field teams and support creation of as-built drawings and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Investigate customer concerns, implement corrective actions, and communicate solutions with staff and customers.

Requirements

  • Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, construction, engineering technology, or equivalent related experience.
  • HVAC industry experience such as technician work, project management, or estimating is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a structured team environment and maintain well-organized records.
  • Ability to travel to construction sites within the district and work outside normal hours or on weekends when required.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems, building automation systems, temperature controls, CAD, electrical drawings, and schematics is preferred.
