HVAC Controls Systems Engineer (Building Automation & Project Leadership)

What you will do

• Plan, execute, and deliver building automation and HVAC control projects from inception through closeout.
• Design hardware, program systems, configure panels, and coordinate installation activities.
• Lead system and network commissioning, verifying mechanical and digital points before project closeout.
• Direct subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, and system designers through scheduling and work oversight.
• Manage project costs, billings, collections, budgets, cost accounting, and change orders.
• Communicate technical requirements to customers, contractors, and non-technical stakeholders while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• Technical Associate’s Degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• At least 2 years of field experience with a technical degree, or 4 years of equivalent building automation field experience.
• Hands-on experience programming panel controls for HVAC equipment and building systems.
• Experience independently managing small-to-midscale projects.
• Knowledge of HVAC controls design, digital commissioning, network integration, and automation software platforms.
• Strong communication and independent problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain technical material to non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Extensive HVAC industry experience focused on advanced controls programming.
• At least 2 years of project management experience in construction or mechanical services.
• Knowledge of project accounting, financial forecasting, and cost-control principles.
• Hands-on experience in systems engineering, hardware configuration, and field commissioning.
