Staff Application Engineer (3D Printing)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at least 3 days per week, Tuesday through Thursday. Occasional domestic and international travel to customer locations is required, approximately 10% of the time.

Salary: $182,400–$273,600 per year; target midpoint of $228,000.

What you will do

• Lead complex customer application programs from concept through production readiness, including benchmarks, prototypes, bridge applications, and production applications.
• Educate customers on Design for DLS, design for manufacturability, printer operation, materials, software, post-processing, and production trade-offs.
• Define technical strategies and optimize end-to-end workflows covering design, file preparation, printing, post-processing, finishing, quality, and validation.
• Evaluate product-market fit, cost models, scalability, technical readiness, and operational risks; present recommendations to sales and leadership.
• Translate customer requirements into actionable input for Software, Product, Materials, and Hardware roadmap discussions.
• Create documentation, reusable workflows, templates, and checklists while mentoring and coaching other Application Engineers.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline focused on product development or product design.
• 8+ years of product development or product design experience, including shipping products from concept through production readiness, DFM, validation, SOP creation, and production transfer.
• Strong proficiency with CAD and CAE tools such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, Magics, Rhino, and Grasshopper.
• Experience with hirify.global’s Design Engine or similar lattice design software, scripting and computational design with Python or Grasshopper, and automation of design-to-production workflows.
• Working knowledge of FEA, structural loading, plastic material properties, injection molding, urethane casting, CNC machining, design for manufacturing, and physical prototyping.
• Strong program ownership, technical communication, cross-functional collaboration, cost and scalability analysis, and mentoring skills.
