TL;DR
Fluid Component Intern Summer 2027 (Aerospace): Supporting the design and development of valves and actuators for oxidizer-rich staged combustion engines and medium-lift launch vehicles with an accent on applied aerospace engineering, fluid handling, and component reliability. Focus on developing engineering solutions, applying CAD/CAM and manufacturing concepts, and collaborating on real hardware challenges for future space missions.

Location: Long Beach, California; full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027.

Salary: $28 USD per hour; relocation stipend may be available.

hirify.global builds rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for space missions and develops valves and actuators for launch-vehicle fluid systems.

What you will do

  • Support the Components team in designing second-generation fluid devices for improved maturity and reliability.
  • Apply engineering and industry concepts to solve practical challenges involving valves, actuators, and fluid handling.
  • Work closely with a mentor and department employees to develop technical and professional skills.
  • Provide progress updates through regular one-to-one meetings with mentors and supervisors.
  • Participate in technical talks and professional events with interns and employees.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program in aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, or mechanical engineering.
  • At least one semester of study must remain after the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • At least three months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States under applicable ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher and at least six months of applied engineering experience.
  • CAD/CAM, CNC, 3D printing, lathe, GD&T, or FEA experience.
  • Python experience and knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, or physics.
