What you will do

• Develop and operate PXRD, XRR, GIXRD, and related X-ray diffraction characterization methods.
• Prepare samples, run measurements, interpret diffraction and reflectometry data, and troubleshoot instrument and workflow issues.
• Define calibration, validation, quality-control, and reproducibility standards for XRD workflows.
• Build structured, traceable, machine-readable data outputs for downstream analysis and modeling.
• Partner with AI, software, automation, and experimental teams on scalable analyzer workflows.
• Maintain instrument readiness through SOPs, documentation, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering, or a related field, or an M.S. with equivalent hands-on characterization experience.
• Hands-on experience with X-ray diffraction, including PXRD and related materials characterization workflows.
• Strong knowledge of diffraction principles, phase identification, crystallite size, microstrain, texture, structure-property relationships, and measurement errors.
• Experience preparing samples, validating methods, interpreting data, and troubleshooting instruments or workflows.
• Experience with XRD analysis software, scientific data analysis, or scripting for data processing.
• Ability to convert characterization workflows into reliable, structured, machine-readable data and collaborate across scientific and technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with XRR, GIXRD, thin-film characterization, or texture analysis.
• Familiarity with automated or high-throughput characterization workflows.
• Experience developing SOPs, QC systems, calibration workflows, or reference standards.
• Proficiency with Python or similar scientific data-analysis tools.
• Experience with commercial, time-sensitive, or cross-functional technical programs.
