Principal ABAP BTP Engineer (SAP BTP)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid 70% in-office and 30% flexible. Only U.S. persons eligible due to U.S. export control requirements; non-U.S. visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Salary: $142,500–$256,500 per year, plus potential annual bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support SAP solutions across ABAP, SAP BTP, S/4HANA, Fiori/UI5, RAP, CAP, and modern extensibility frameworks.
• Build advanced ABAP reports, interfaces, APIs, workflows, enhancements, forms, BADIs, BAPIs, user exits, and object-oriented components.
• Develop BTP applications using Business Application Studio, HANA Cloud, Integration Suite, Workflow, Event Mesh, and related services.
• Create scalable, role-based SAP Fiori and SAPUI5 user experiences and apply clean-core and side-by-side extension strategies.
• Integrate SAP and non-SAP platforms through APIs, middleware, and event-driven architecture; troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Support SAP Joule and Business AI use cases by integrating backend services and enterprise content with appropriate security, governance, and business context.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in information technology, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of SAP development experience, including deep ABAP expertise and at least 3+ years of SAP BTP development and extensibility.
• Hands-on experience with ABAP, SAP S/4HANA, Fiori/UI5, BTP services, RAP, CAP, RICEFW objects, integrations, workflows, and debugging.
• Knowledge of SAP Business AI capabilities including SAP Joule, Joule Studio, AI Core, AI Launchpad, Generative AI Hub, prompt design, enterprise-content grounding, and responsible AI governance.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills across technical, functional, architecture, project, and business teams.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under U.S. export control laws; non-U.S. visa sponsorship is not available.

• Experience in an FDA-regulated environment such as pharmaceuticals or medical devices.
