Software Engineer II, Java (PlayStation)

Salary: $136,400–$204,600 USD annual base pay, with potential bonus eligibility

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java backend services using Spring Boot and related frameworks.
• Build REST APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and platform components for PlayStation Network and digital services.
• Develop features supporting commerce, subscriptions, identity, content, gaming, media, and partner integrations.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases, write efficient SQL queries, and improve schema and service performance.
• Support cloud-native applications on AWS, containers, and Kubernetes, including monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and CI/CD automation.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, technical documentation, production troubleshooting, and modernization of legacy systems.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience developing Java-based backend systems.
• Strong Java 17+ experience and backend development experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, or related frameworks.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, automated testing, Git, and Linux or Unix environments.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, or Oracle, including SQL queries and database performance considerations.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate with technical and non-technical partners.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Kafka, cloud messaging, NoSQL, caching, or observability platforms.
• Experience with API gateways, authentication, authorization, OAuth2, OIDC, identity platforms, secure coding, or application security testing.
• Experience modernizing legacy Java applications or familiarity with React and TypeScript.
• Interest in gaming, entertainment, commerce, media streaming, or large-scale consumer platforms.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly.
