Associate Director of Construction & Contractor Safety (EHS)

Location: North Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite construction and contractor safety leadership

Salary: $141,500–$268,500 per year

What you will do

• Manage the development, implementation, maintenance, global oversight, and governance of EHS programs.
• Lead construction and contractor safety programs, tools, training, compliance activities, and technical standards.
• Act as a visible field leader by observing active jobsites, coaching employees and contractors, and reinforcing safe practices.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; share lessons learned and drive corrective actions.
• Partner with cross-functional teams and construction companies to improve safety performance and reduce EHS risk.
• Introduce automated tools, AI, and new technologies for safety compliance, analysis, and evaluation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS or engineering with 10+ years of related experience, or a master’s degree with 8–10 years of related experience.
• EHS experience in manufacturing or R&D environments is required.
• Experience implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, working with regulatory agencies, and managing cross-functional teams.
• Ability to assess complex problems, coordinate responses, develop preventive procedures, and present short- and long-term solutions.
• Strong relationship-building, conflict-resolution, decision-making, influencing, negotiation, and project-management skills.
• Experience with major construction projects, greenfield sites, and presenting EHS KPIs to senior leadership is preferred.
