Director Health and Safety Management

Location: National Harbor, Maryland, United States; the role starts remotely and will eventually be based on-site in Maryland, with regular travel to business locations and project sites.

Salary: $113,000–$210,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Lead and continuously improve health and safety programs across active construction and development projects.
• Conduct site inspections, observations, audits, and job hazard analyses, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Partner with project directors, construction managers, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to integrate safety into planning and daily operations.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; identify root causes and implement preventive actions.
• Monitor contractor safety performance, maintain records and regulatory documentation, and report safety metrics and trends to leadership.
• Deliver site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training while promoting proactive hazard reporting and shared accountability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health and safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• OSHA 30-hour certification required; Certified Safety Professional certification or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive health and safety experience, including significant experience on active construction sites and large-scale or complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Ability to navigate active construction sites, use required PPE, assess hazards, investigate incidents, and work safely around equipment, noise, dust, stairs, and changing conditions.
• Regular presence at active project sites and flexibility to work across international time zones are required.
