Refrigeration Operator (Ammonia)

Location: Onsite 5 days a week in Clifton, New Jersey, United States

Compensation: $37–$43 per hour base pay for this full-time position, with potential bonus, incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

• Operate, maintain, inspect, and repair ammonia and freon-based refrigeration systems, including single-stage, two-stage, and cascade systems.
• Monitor system pressures, temperatures, readings, and operating conditions; troubleshoot issues and coordinate repairs or service.
• Maintain refrigeration components such as compressors, pumps, chillers, evaporators, condensers, controls, and valves.
• Perform preventive maintenance, plumbing and fixture work, leak detection, equipment shutdowns, and emergency breakdown response.
• Maintain operating records, reports, quotations, and work scopes while supporting compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Train personnel on routine checks and standard operating procedures and support safe operation of facility utility systems.

Requirements

• New Jersey Blue Seal Toxic To Operating license required.
• At least 5 years of ammonia and freon-based refrigeration experience.
• Experience with screw and reciprocating compressors, recirculation pumps, HVAC units, air compressors, and control systems.
• Experience with ammonia pump-downs and repairs, refrigeration blueprints, P&IDs, and cut sheets.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills; knowledge of lockout/tagout and safe work practices.
• Ability to respond to emergencies 24/7, including after-hours and weekends, and to climb, work at heights, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Experience in produce, food processing, or food storage facilities.
• Knowledge of cooling-tower chemical testing and ammonia systems.
• Hazmat Responder Certification.
