Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Carlsbad, California, United States. The role includes up to 10% domestic travel.

Salary: $120,500–$190,000 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $149,500–$224,500 annually.

What you will do

• Design, document, and test electronics hardware and packaging.
• Create 3D parts and assemblies for ruggedized and cryptographic equipment using SolidWorks.
• Perform thermal analysis down to the component junction level and manage heat dissipation within electronics assemblies.
• Conduct structural analysis and qualification testing for products operating in harsh environments.
• Manage parts, materials, interfaces, and derived requirements across the product development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineering, configuration management, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of mechanical design engineering experience, including electronics packaging, ruggedized products, and cryptographic equipment.
• Experience with SolidWorks and thermal analysis software such as Ansys, Thermal Desktop, or SolidWorks Flow Simulation.
• Experience with component-level thermal analysis, structural analysis, and heat dissipation in electronics assemblies.
• Familiarity with requirements management, MIL-STD-810 environmental testing, and related MIL standards.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance is required.

• Active U.S. Secret Clearance.
• Cryptographic electronics packaging experience using SolidWorks.
• Thermal analysis experience for electronic modules.
• Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
