TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineer (Optics) (SolidWorks/Precision Optics): Designing and modeling tooling and equipment for optical fabrication, coating processes, and precision optics manufacturing with an accent on mechanical requirements, manufacturability, and detailed production documentation. Focus on building complex assembly models, validating product designs, supporting NPI, and coordinating design reviews for ultra-precision optical components.

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; onsite

Salary: $85,000–$130,000 per year, depending on experience

hirify.global develops photonic technologies and manufactures optical components, coatings, and optical sub-assemblies for biomedical, semiconductor, industrial, scientific, security, defense, aerospace, and other demanding applications.

What you will do

  • Design and model tooling and equipment for optical fabrication and coating processes.
  • Design tooling supporting the production of precision optics.
  • Work with internal customers to clarify mechanical requirements.
  • Conduct and coordinate analyses to validate product designs and processes.
  • Support the NPI Technical Lead in ensuring manufacturability of new designs.
  • Lead or support design reviews and discipline-specific peer reviews across parallel projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, especially SolidWorks.
  • Experience building complex assembly models and creating detailed mechanical drawings and manufacturing specifications.
  • Experience with Product Documentation Management (PDM).
  • Effective communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Work onsite in Boulder, Colorado, United States; the position involves ITAR-controlled information.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with DFMEA.
