TL;DR
Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer (Avionics) (Spacecraft Avionics): Developing, manufacturing, and testing flight avionics hardware across spacecraft subsystems with an accent on component/LRU design, signal conditioning, communications protocols, and PCB development. Focus on leading subsystem design, performing trade studies, integrating and qualifying avionics systems, and verifying performance through environmental testing.

Location: Onsite in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Travel up to 20% may be required, including overnight travel for environmental and qualification testing.

What you will do

  • Develop flight avionics hardware for computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command and data handling.
  • Manage schedule, budget, design performance, and delegated tasks for an assigned LRU or avionics subsystem.
  • Perform trade studies and verify spacecraft operating modes by designing, fabricating, and testing integrated avionics systems.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and partners to select technically optimal and cost-effective components.
  • Test PCBs and integrated avionics systems, developing test scripts and simulations as needed.
  • Participate in environmental and qualification testing and deliver technical reports on test results and avionics and power-system advancements.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of electronics hardware development experience and a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Component or LRU electrical design experience, with the ability to mentor and lead small engineering teams on complex products.
  • Systems engineering experience covering requirements, risks, and integration flow.
  • Proficiency in schematic and board design using Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar tools.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, debugging, digital and analog design, signal conditioning, and communications protocols including RS-422, RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons and eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR regulations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Microsoft Project, JIRA, mechanical CAD, FPGA or processor programming, and high-speed digital PCB design.
  • Knowledge of Range Safety, Ground Safety electronics compliance, NASA-STD 4001, NASA-STD 4003, space environmental testing, or MIL-STD 461.
  • Experience developing electronics for Class D unmanned spacecraft and implementing VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards.
  • M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
