TL;DR
Electrical Avionics Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, building, testing, and flying avionics units for in-space transportation vehicles with an accent on flight computers, power systems, sensors, cameras, and radio communications. Focus on PCB design, spacecraft qualification testing, radiation-tolerant electronics, and fault-tolerant avionics architectures.

Location: San Jose, California, United States; onsite full-time position

Annual base salary: $140,000–$175,000 per year, plus potential bonus and equity.

What you will do

  • Design, build, test, and support flight operations for avionics units used in in-space transportation vehicles.
  • Develop flight computers, data-handling systems, payload interfaces, power converters, power distribution systems, sensors, cameras, radio communications, and microwave amplifiers.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout, including designs in Altium Designer.
  • Conduct detailed technical reviews of electronics designs and PCB layouts.
  • Help define test plans for TVAC, vibration, thermal, radiation, EMC, and EMI flight qualification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 5–8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing electronics for LEO, GEO, or deep-space environments, including radiation, thermal, and vibration considerations.
  • Technical expertise in at least one area: high-speed digital, power, RF, or mixed-signal electronics.
  • Experience with PCB design, circuit simulation, embedded software, fault-tolerant systems, or spacecraft avionics architectures.
  • Must be able to access export-controlled technology and hold or maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent resident status, or protected-person status is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with radiation test campaigns.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or other U.S. government development and deployment programs.
  • Experience with LTspice and high-speed interfaces, FPGAs, microprocessors, memory, ADCs, DACs, image sensors, or analog front ends.
