Senior Manager Hardware Engineering (Avionics)

Location: On-site in Phoenix, Arizona, or Grand Rapids, Michigan

What you will do

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary hardware engineering organization covering RF, FPGA/firmware, electrical, mechanical, CAD, and component engineering.
• Drive new product development, product enhancement, and sustaining engineering across cost, schedule, quality, and performance objectives.
• Provide technical oversight for hardware architecture, design reviews, trade studies, verification, and certification activities.
• Champion design for manufacturability, cost, testability, reliability, and supportability in partnership with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.
• Own component selection, obsolescence management, workforce planning, succession planning, and long-term product sustainment.
• Partner with senior leaders, program managers, customers, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and outsourced engineering providers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of engineering experience in aerospace, avionics, defense, or a related industry.
• At least 3 years of engineering leadership or management experience with direct reports.
• Experience managing complex hardware development programs through the full product lifecycle, including manufacturing, production, and fielded-product environments.
• Demonstrated experience in talent development, coaching, mentoring, performance management, team building, and leading through influence in a matrixed organization.
• Experience establishing and overseeing technical execution partnerships with outsourced engineering providers.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or an MBA.
• Commercial or military avionics product development experience.
• Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, DO-254, or similar certification and qualification standards.
• Experience with RF, surveillance, aerospace electronic systems, FPGA/embedded firmware leadership, reliability engineering, environmental qualification, or obsolescence planning.
• Experience leading geographically distributed or overseas engineering teams.
