Sr Product Software Engineer (News Front-End)

Location: New York, New York, United States

Salary: $148,700–$199,400 per year, plus potential bonus, long-term incentive units, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and ship product features for ABC News and ABC Owned and Operated Television Station websites.
• Design and implement scalable solutions for high-traffic consumer web applications.
• Create technical specifications, designs, refactors, and architectural improvements.
• Improve tooling, performance, accessibility, observability, and developer experience.
• Review code and influence engineering standards, development practices, and system quality.
• Mentor less experienced engineers through reviews, design discussions, on-call rotations, and one-to-one guidance.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant professional software engineering experience.
• Extensive experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js, and modern front-end web development.
• Experience owning features across the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through deployment and support.
• Experience building scalable applications for high-traffic environments, with automated testing, code reviews, and continuous quality improvement.
• Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider, CI/CD pipelines, web accessibility standards, and monitoring or observability tools.
• BS in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership on complex projects.
• Experience with CMS integrations, content delivery pipelines, A/B testing, experimentation, personalization, recommendation engines, or feed-driven interfaces.
• Experience optimizing performance, scalability, and user experience for large consumer audiences.
• Experience using AI-powered development tools and coding assistants with strong judgment in validating outputs.
