Senior Field Service Technician (Diesel and Electrical Systems)

Location: National City, California, United States; field assignments at military, marine, industrial, shipboard, and customer locations. Travel required up to 75% domestically and internationally.

Salary: $38.53–$48.17 per hour, plus overtime compensation.

What you will do

• Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul diesel engines, electrical controls, cranes, davits, elevators, roll-up doors, and pneumatic or PLC-controlled systems.
• Lead field activities and regional technicians while providing technical guidance, training, and first-level escalation support.
• Support customers on site and by telephone, collaborate with Product Engineering, and implement service documentation and Engineering Change Orders.
• Complete maintenance records, timecards, expense reports, project-closure documentation, and customer arrival estimates.
• Perform occasional shop duties involving parts inspection, assembly, and testing.
• Maintain safe working practices and deliver first-time fixes in industrial, marine, military, and shipboard environments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least three years of experience as an FMD Field Service Technician, plus four years of military or comparable industry experience; alternatively, an associate degree in a technical discipline and four years of military experience.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, spark-gas test equipment, electrical and electronic engine controls, pneumatics, PLC systems, technical diagrams, and blueprints.
• Independent equipment troubleshooting and repair skills, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to lead and mentor technicians.
• Valid driver’s license, Microsoft Office proficiency, and comfort using a laptop or tablet for technical information and documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, work at heights and in confined spaces, wear PPE, and operate safely in extreme temperatures and active industrial or marine environments.

Nice to have

• Experience from trade schools, the marine industry, military service, diesel, heavy-equipment, electrical, or field-service industries.
