Executive Claims Examiner (Casualty Insurance)

Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States; hybrid. Travel required as necessary, approximately 10–20%.

Salary: $97,520–$167,640 per year, plus potential eligibility for the annual incentive plan.

What you will do

• Investigate, negotiate, and settle complex primary and excess casualty claims, including negligence, premises liability, commercial automobile, construction, product liability, and sexual assault claims.
• Analyze insurance coverage, make coverage determinations, draft correspondence, and communicate coverage positions to policyholders and other stakeholders.
• Manage nationwide litigation, appoint and direct defense counsel, and pursue economical claim resolutions.
• Set loss and expense reserves, evaluate settlement values, and manage contractual obligations and investigations.
• Coordinate with underwriting, claims vendors, disbursement and legal collections teams, and management on significant developments.
• Support initiatives, agent meetings, and the ongoing training and development of claims examiners.

Requirements

• US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
• At least 10 years of casualty claims or litigation experience.
• College degree required; professional designations preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex issues and develop action plans.
• Strong understanding of casualty liability and excess liability coverage, including coverage analysis and litigation.
• Ability to manage complex litigation, work independently, manage a caseload, and collaborate across the Casualty Division.

Nice to have

• Experience working with third-party administrators, managing general agents, or managing general underwriters.
• Insurance coverage litigation experience.
• Professional insurance designations.
