TL;DR
NPD Engineering Intern (Mechanical Engineering): Designing, modeling, testing, and improving mechanical systems for JLG access equipment with an accent on CAD layouts, engineering changes, product data, and vehicle testing. Focus on performing engineering calculations, supporting prototype and production builds, and solving technical issues with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.

Location: Frederick, Maryland, United States; office-based role

Pay range: $18.00–$37.00 per hour

JLG, an Oshkosh company, develops access equipment including mobile elevating work platforms, telehandlers, utility vehicles, and accessories.

What you will do

  • Design, model, and test new mechanical systems for scissor products.
  • Research and execute continuous improvement requests supporting manufacturing, supply chain, customer feedback, and operations.
  • Prepare, revise, and review vehicle component layouts using CAD tools such as Creo Parametric.
  • Create and manage Engineering Change Notices and update bills of materials in PLM and PDM systems.
  • Support prototype, pilot, and production builds on the assembly floor.
  • Perform engineering calculations and assist with vehicle and component testing while collaborating with suppliers, customers, and internal departments.

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in mechanical design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Understanding of basic steel and sheet metal fabrication principles.
  • Ability to work in the office-based Frederick, Maryland role.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Creo Parametric, Pro-E, CATIA, or a similar CAD system.
  • Previous internship or work-related experience.
  • Participation in extracurricular engineering activities such as SAE teams.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and related equipment.
