TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineering Intern (Lean Manufacturing): Improving assembly and production operations through line optimization, time studies, material flow analysis, and quality initiatives with an accent on Lean Manufacturing, process efficiency, and data-driven recommendations. Focus on analyzing manufacturing bottlenecks, improving layouts and material handling, and applying Excel macros, Power BI, and simulation software to reduce assembly time and waste.

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; onsite work combining office duties with physical activity in field and production environments.

Salary: $18.00–$37.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Support assembly line optimization to reduce assembly time and improve productivity.
  • Conduct time studies and process analysis to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze material flow and improve layouts, material handling, and worker efficiency.
  • Support quality, waste reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze manufacturing data and convert findings into actionable process recommendations.
  • Use Excel macros, Power BI, simulation software, Lean Manufacturing principles, and engineering concepts to implement operational improvements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with engineering and production teams.
  • Ability to perform office and production-floor duties, including walking, standing, climbing stairs, moderate lifting up to 50 pounds, and working around varying temperatures and noise levels.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Exposure to process optimization, time studies, material flow analysis, or manufacturing simulation.
  • Experience with Excel macros, Power BI, simulation software, or other data analysis tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
