Field Engineer (Heavy Civil Infrastructure)

Location: New Jersey, USA; New York, USA; or Washington, District of Columbia, United States. Field-based construction oversight may involve active transportation, aviation, and water/wastewater facilities.

Salary: $85,000–$150,000 per year ($41–$72 per hour).

What you will do

• Monitor construction activities against approved plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements, documenting site conditions and completed work.
• Maintain daily reports, quantity records, photographs, field logs, and documentation of delays, directives, differing site conditions, and changed work.
• Verify installed quantities, pay items, submittals, shop drawings, materials, and work in place; support progress payment reviews.
• Coordinate requests for information among contractors, designers of record, and program teams through resolution.
• Witness acceptance testing and materials sampling for concrete, asphalt, and earthwork, and track nonconforming work through correction.
• Compare schedules with observed progress and support close-out, punch lists, as-built records, and turnover documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, structural engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of field engineering or construction management experience on large, complex heavy-civil infrastructure projects valued above $500 million.
• Working knowledge of construction plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, construction materials testing, acceptance procedures, and quality assurance documentation.
• Experience maintaining construction field records, including daily reports, quantity records, and site-condition documentation.
• Experience with construction document control and field documentation software such as Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat, Procore, e-Builder, or Aconex.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and active certifications or licenses such as EIT, PE, CCM, or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I.
• Experience in an owner’s field office on construction packages exceeding $100 million or programs exceeding $1 billion.
• Experience documenting changed work, differing site conditions, delays, and claims, or overseeing work near active rail, airfield, or water and wastewater facilities.
• Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Civil 3D, Navisworks, Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or similar software.
