TL;DR
Scientist I - SVOA - Environment Testing (Chemistry/Laboratory Testing): Performing routine sample preparation, chemical analysis, data calculation, reporting, and instrument maintenance with an accent on GMP/GLP compliance and environmental testing methods. Focus on preparing and analyzing samples using gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, atomic absorption, ICP, and other laboratory instrumentation.

Location: South Bend, Indiana, USA; onsite, 1st shift Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Salary: $20.15–$27 per hour

What you will do

  • Prepare, aliquot, and weigh environmental samples using standard laboratory techniques.
  • Perform routine chemical analyses, calculate results, and record and report data and unusual test occurrences.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory instruments, including gas chromatography, GC/MS, atomic absorption, ICP, and related data systems.
  • Apply GMP/GLP, environmental health and safety, and quality assurance standards.
  • Wash glassware, maintain housekeeping standards, and complete laboratory activities safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in chemistry or a related field; three years of laboratory experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship.
  • Ability to use calculators and mathematical formulas, follow written or verbal instructions, solve problems, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work under close supervision and learn protocols for organic preparation, metals analysis, radio chemistry, wet chemistry, and high- or low-resolution analysis.

Nice to have

  • Previous laboratory experience.
  • Previous production-oriented work experience.
  • Experience with gas chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, or related environmental testing methods.
