TL;DR
Associate Chemist (Associate Scientist) - Environment Testing, 1st Shift (GC/MS and environmental testing): Preparing and analyzing environmental samples using standard analytical methods, with an accent on GC/MS, semi-volatile organic compounds, quality control, and accurate data reporting. Focus on operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation, completing QC samples, documenting quality issues, and managing sample preparation under established safety and QA procedures.

Location: Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. Onsite laboratory role on the 1st shift, Monday–Friday or Sunday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Training runs Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. for an estimated 3–4 months. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship.

Salary: $18–$20 per hour; additional information lists $18–$19 per hour plus a 10% shift differential.

What you will do

  • Prepare and analyze environmental samples using approved scientific methods and standard laboratory techniques.
  • Focus on GC/MS and semi-volatile organic compound testing, with training across relevant analytical disciplines.
  • Evaluate, quantify, record, and report analytical data and unusual test occurrences.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance, sample purging, glassware handling, and laboratory supply inventory.
  • Complete assigned QC samples, maintain training documentation, and document nonconformances when required.
  • Follow environmental health and safety, quality assurance, and standard operating procedures while managing assigned workload.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Chemistry or a related field, an associate degree, or two years of related laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required, including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • United States work authorization without restriction or sponsorship is required.
  • Ability to work with organic solvents, laboratory glassware, specialized equipment, and prolonged standing.
  • Ability to interpret written procedures, perform calculations, analyze data, identify issues, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong organizational, collaboration, accuracy, and deadline-management skills.

Nice to have

  • Previous wet chemistry experience.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or production setting.
