TL;DR
Associate Chemist (Environment Testing): Preparing and analyzing environmental samples with an accent on metals preparation, standard analytical techniques, quality control, and laboratory safety. Focus on performing chemical analyses, quantifying data, maintaining instruments, and completing QC samples during a 2nd-shift laboratory schedule.

Location: Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA; onsite position. Work schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM. Training is Monday–Friday on the 1st shift.

Salary: $18–$20.90 per hour, with a 10% shift differential. The posting also lists a base pay rate of $18–$19 per hour.

What you will do

  • Prepare environmental samples using approved standard techniques, with a focus on metals preparation.
  • Perform routine chemical analyses and quantify, record, and report analytical data.
  • Complete assigned quality control samples, including MDL, LOD/LOQ, and PT samples.
  • Operate complex laboratory instrumentation and related software; training is provided.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance, glassware handling, sample purging, and laboratory supply inventory.
  • Follow SOPs, quality assurance procedures, health and safety standards, and document quality issues when required.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Chemistry or a related field, an associate degree, or two years of related laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship is required.
  • Ability to work standing for extended periods and handle organic solvents, laboratory glassware, and specialized equipment.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines accurately.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience with wet chemistry.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or production setting.
