TL;DR
Scientist I - LC/MS - Environment Testing (LC/MS): Performing routine environmental laboratory testing through sample preparation, chemical analysis, data calculation, reporting, and instrument maintenance with an accent on GMP/GLP compliance and environmental quality standards. Focus on learning complex analytical instrumentation, including gas chromatography, GC/MS, atomic absorption, and ICP, while maintaining accurate and safe laboratory operations.

Location: South Bend, Indiana, USA; onsite, 1st shift Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Salary: $20.15–$27 per hour

What you will do

  • Prepare and aliquot samples using standard laboratory techniques.
  • Perform routine chemical analyses and calculate, record, and report results and unusual test occurrences.
  • Learn and become competent with complex instrumentation, including gas chromatography, GC/MS, atomic absorption, ICP, and related data systems.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance, wash glassware, and maintain an orderly work area.
  • Follow GMP/GLP, environmental health and safety, and quality assurance standards.
  • Work under close supervision while following written and verbal procedures safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in chemistry or a related field; three years of laboratory experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to use calculators, mathematical formulas, and concepts.
  • Ability to work independently, follow protocols, solve problems, and manage time.
  • Previous laboratory or production-oriented experience is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with organic preparation, metals preparation and analysis, gas chromatography, GC/MS, radiochemistry, wet chemistry, or high- and low-resolution preparation and analysis.
