Staff AI Engineer

Location: NYC-Metro; hybrid work

Base compensation: $190,000–$230,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Design and deploy LLM-powered agents using prompt engineering, tool use, orchestration logic, RAG, and system evaluation.
• Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders at major credit firms to develop AI solutions tied to workflow outcomes and ROI.
• Architect and maintain backend systems and APIs connecting data sources and customer platforms.
• Optimize agentic systems for accuracy, latency, reliability, cost, observability, and explainability.
• Define reusable infrastructure, platform architecture, engineering standards, and the long-term technical roadmap.
• Help establish the engineering culture, hiring bar, and technical practices.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2–3+ years of hands-on experience building AI/ML systems, LLM-based agents, or RAG systems in production.
• Expertise in agent-to-agent orchestration, self-correcting agent loops, prompt-routing middleware, and AI safety and reliability practices.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and APIs; GCP is preferred.
• Strong system architecture, performance, scaling, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and working effectively in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with human-in-the-loop systems, feedback loops, and long-horizon agentic task execution.
• Background in financial systems, risk modeling, or decision automation.
• Familiarity with PydanticAI, LlamaIndex, Google ADK, Claude Agent SDK, or similar frameworks.
• Experience building an internal AI platform or reusable LLM tooling.
