Staff Software Engineer (AI Backend)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA

Salary: $230,000–$260,000 base salary per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and evolve scalable AI-powered systems that move, transform, and enrich data across products.
• Build backend services and data-processing workflows that convert complex, unstructured customer data into reliable structured outputs.
• Shape the architecture of APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and LLM-powered and agentic systems.
• Own the deployment, observability, scalability, reliability, and production support of cloud-native services.
• Partner with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to turn ambiguous business needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and lead cross-team technical initiatives from architecture through production.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production backend or data-intensive systems.
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
• Experience designing distributed systems, asynchronous workflows, and reliable data-processing services.
• Experience deploying and operating containerized applications on a major cloud platform.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in New York or San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Experience building production LLM systems, including multi-step, tool-using, or agentic workflows.
• Experience working at a growing company.
• Experience with GCP and Datadog.
