Senior Software Engineer - OS, Robot Software (Linux)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, USA; hybrid

Salary: $209,700–$260,000 per year, plus a competitive equity package.

What you will do

• Own the creation and maintenance of Linux kernels and device drivers for vehicle hardware, sensors, and peripherals.
• Develop and maintain hirify.global’s bespoke Linux distribution using Yocto.
• Build reliable, high-performance C++ software for an autonomous-driving development fleet.
• Design fault-tolerant software with comprehensive diagnostics, observability, and debuggability for remotely deployed vehicles.
• Collaborate with Product, Project, Engineering, hardware, supply chain, field engineering, and reliability engineering stakeholders.
• Promote strong engineering practices through testing, documentation, tooling, mentorship, and collaboration.

Requirements

• Strong experience developing high-performance embedded Linux systems software in C and C++.
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle, from ideation through delivery and optimization.
• Knowledge of embedded Linux, including the kernel, device tree, Yocto build systems, boot sequence, secure boot, and user-space applications.
• Ability to investigate performance issues, stack traces, core dumps, disk-write problems, high system load, memory bottlenecks, device bottlenecks, and threading issues.
• Strong understanding of IPC mechanisms and IPC middleware for high-throughput robotics applications, including frameworks such as ROS.
• Ability to work in a hybrid capacity in Sunnyvale, California, USA.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics or automotive platforms such as Nvidia Jetson or Nvidia Drive.
• Experience with embedded real-time operating systems such as QNX.
