Staff Dimensional Engineer – SPARC (Fusion Energy)

What you will do

• Define GD&T and datum strategies with Engineering for large, complex fusion hardware.
• Perform 1D tolerance stack-ups and 3D variation analyses across assembly sequences.
• Establish inspection requirements, measurement methods, and acceptance criteria for metallic components and assemblies.
• Flow down key characteristics from system-level requirements to component drawings and supplier requirements.
• Analyze dimensional impacts of non-conformances and engineering changes to support rework, repair, use-as-is, or scrap decisions.
• Coach inspectors, quality engineers, and design engineers on dimensional management practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Materials Science, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of dimensional engineering experience with complex hardware such as airframes, vehicle structures, turbomachinery, or large equipment.
• Expert knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5, including datum strategy, tolerance allocation, and drawing review authority; GDTP certification is strongly preferred.
• Experience with tolerance stack-ups, RSS and worst-case methods, and 3D variation analysis using 3DCS, VisVA, or equivalent.
• Experience with dimensional management for large assemblies, including indexing strategies, key characteristics, and assembly-sequence variation.
• Ability to work on-site in a facility with industrial hazards, including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Experience establishing dimensional management practices for new programs or organizations.
• Knowledge of SPC, process capability analysis, MSA/Gage R&R, and PFMEA.
• Familiarity with laser trackers, portable CMM arms, CMMs, and structured-light scanning.
• Knowledge of NDE methods, cryogenics, Minitab or JMP, Excel with VBA, or Visio.
