Engineering Manager (Frontier AI Infrastructure)

Location: Washington, DC; must be able to support work from the DC office 3–4 days per week

Base salary: $213,600–$267,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and benefits

What you will do

• Lead, coach, hire, onboard, and develop a team of software engineers in a 50/50 management and hands-on engineering role.
• Set technical direction and quarterly priorities for the model inference layer.
• Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable backend systems and cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Run sprint planning, on-call rotations, incident reviews, and postmortems.
• Translate customer and mission requirements into a roadmap with Product, Program, and Deployed Engineering leadership.
• Represent the team in customer engagements and cloud vendor escalations, including with government stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 1–2 years of direct people management experience leading software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Strong hands-on individual contributor experience and willingness to continue writing code, reviewing pull requests, and debugging production issues.
• Active Secret clearance required, with the ability and willingness to obtain TS/SCI with CI Poly.
• Experience with full-stack development, including front-end and back-end technologies, modern web frameworks, programming languages, and databases.
• Experience with containerization, orchestration, cloud platforms, and cloud-native application development.
• Experience delivering secure software that meets federal compliance and regulatory requirements, such as FedRAMP, Cloud SRG, and STIG Benchmarks.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering software to air-gapped and isolated environments.
• Experience building or scaling a small engineering team and establishing standards for code review, testing, and on-call operations.
• Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and learning agility skills.
