Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Hypersonic Vehicles)

What you will do

• Lead the design, build, and integration of flight vehicle components including composite tanks, separation mechanisms, actuators, and control surfaces.
• Own mechanical systems from concept through implementation, production, integration, testing, and flight.
• Apply statics, dynamics, and modal analysis to justify designs and verify performance.
• Support iterative prototyping cycles approximately every four weeks and incorporate test feedback into new designs.
• Develop CAD standards, documentation practices, hardware management protocols, and build documentation.
• Collaborate hands-on with technicians, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams during development and integration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience with detailed CAD design of complex parts, tolerance stack-up analysis, thermal analysis, structural analysis, and design-to-cost.
• Experience designing manufacturable flight hardware optimized for weight, cost, and simplicity.
• Familiarity with coatings, finishes, and composite structures.
• Experience taking hardware from initial concept through implementation, production, and successful operations.
• Access to export-controlled information may require U.S. government authorization, security clearance, citizenship, or other eligibility requirements.

• Experience questioning assumptions, applying concepts from other industries, and solving development issues autonomously.
• Experience working with vendors during site visits or joint development efforts.
• Experience communicating with regulators, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders.
