TL;DR
Senior Turbomachinery Aeromechanics Engineer (Nuclear Microreactors): Designing compressor and turbine stages for deployable nuclear reactors from preliminary sizing through aerodynamic design, structural and life analysis, and test validation with an accent on high-speed turbomachinery performance, rotating hardware integrity, and manufacturability. Focus on developing performance maps, analyzing fatigue, creep, modal resonance, and vane-blade interactions, and correlating analytical predictions with hardware testing.

Location: Los Angeles, United States; onsite hardware development role

Salary: $140,000–$220,000 per year, depending on leveling and experience.

Company

hirify.global is a Series C startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.

What you will do

  • Own aerodynamic and structural design of compressor and turbine stages.
  • Support architecture trades through meanline analysis, preliminary sizing, and performance modeling.
  • Design blades, vanes, diffusers, volutes, and related flow-path components.
  • Develop turbomachinery performance maps for Brayton-cycle system development.
  • Perform static, modal, low-cycle fatigue, high-cycle fatigue, and creep analysis of rotating hardware.
  • Correlate aerodynamic, structural, and life predictions with component and rig testing, then implement design improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience designing compressors, pumps, and/or turbines.
  • Strong understanding of turbomachinery aerodynamics and aerodynamic design methods.
  • Experience with structural analysis and life-limiting mechanisms in high-speed rotating hardware, including fatigue, creep, and modal resonance.
  • Ability to make engineering trade-offs across performance, structural margin, life, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
  • Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorization.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Seven or more years of high-performance turbomachinery design experience.
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical, CFX, BladeGen, TurboGrid, AxSTREAM, PUMPAL, NX, or comparable tools.
  • Experience with forced-response analysis, hardware validation, and correlating analytical models with test data.

Culture & Benefits

  • Significant stock option package in addition to salary.
  • Work emphasizes systems thinking, first-principles analysis, and practical engineering decisions.
  • Teams prioritize face-to-face collaboration while supporting deep work from anywhere when appropriate.
  • Occasional weekend or extended-hour work may be required to support hardware development milestones.
  • Employment decisions are based on merit, competence, and qualifications.
