Publishing Director, Springer Journals (Applied Sciences)

Location: Hybrid role based in the New York or Philadelphia office, United States

Salary: US annualized base salary of $145,000–$160,000, plus eligibility for an annual sales bonus plan

What you will do

• Develop and execute strategic plans for a global portfolio of applied-sciences journals.
• Lead, manage, mentor, and develop high-performing publishing teams.
• Use financial, analytical, and quantitative insights to assess portfolio performance and improve market outcomes.
• Identify and pursue partnerships with societies, associations, editors, and journal owners.
• Manage complex stakeholder relationships and competing priorities across a matrixed organization.
• Build relationships with editors, editorial boards, societies, authors, reviewers, and the wider research community.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a scientific, academic, business, or related field.
• Significant experience in scientific, academic, or scholarly publishing, including leadership responsibility for people, portfolios, and business performance.
• Experience building and leading high-performing teams in a complex, matrixed environment.
• Demonstrated success developing portfolio strategies that drive growth, innovation, and long-term market impact.
• Strong commercial, analytical, negotiation, influencing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal English proficiency.
