Research Engineer, Level II - IV (Simulation)

Location: Bryan, Texas; U.S. citizens only. This is a security-sensitive position requiring the ability to obtain a Department of War security clearance.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and operate the integrated simulation environment in the Systems Integration Lab.
• Integrate autonomous flight-control systems and flight, communications, fire, and aircraft simulation components.
• Build missions, environments, and assets in real-time simulation engines such as Unreal Engine.
• Develop and operate hardware-in-the-loop simulation connected to aircraft or embedded hardware.
• Engage with wildland firefighters and emergency responders to gather operational requirements and refine simulation fidelity.
• Coordinate firefighting and disaster-response simulation exercises and support day-to-day lab operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two, four, or six years of related experience for Research Engineer Level II, III, or IV respectively.
• Proficiency appropriate to level in Python and C++, object-oriented programming, and systems-level engineering.
• Experience with Linux and Windows environments, scripting, command-line tools, and Git.
• Experience with real-time simulation engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or VBS4 and with hardware-in-the-loop simulation appropriate to level.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a Department of War security clearance are required.
