Staff Systems Engineer - Safety Methodologies (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Remote in the US and Canada, or hybrid in Dallas, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, or Toronto

Salary: $200,000–$256,000 USD yearly, plus discretionary equity incentives and annual performance bonus

What you will do

• Develop sample-efficient, high-signal safety datasets using simulation and closed-course track testing.
• Establish feedback loops from on-road monitoring and safety-relevant events to expand and refine test coverage.
• Validate and optimize safety evaluation pipelines through comparative analysis of safety frameworks and benchmark criteria.
• Create clear, structured safety artifacts that connect driverless readiness decisions to validation evidence.
• Mentor peers and drive constructive, evidence-backed collaboration across teams.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering or a related discipline; a master's degree or PhD is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in automotive, robotics, or a closely related industry.
• Experience using simulation and real-world testing to make readiness decisions.
• Strong scripting and data analysis skills with Python and SQL, plus a solid foundation in statistics.
• Experience building a safety case for autonomous vehicles and communicating complex data clearly.
• Ability to collaborate across functional boundaries and drive evidence-backed decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience launching a driverless product.
• Experience implementing or building software systems from scratch.
• Experience in machine learning, data mining, and advanced statistical analysis.
