Aerospace Engineer-SME (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, California; in person/hybrid, not remote

Salary: $130,000+ annually, depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Provide senior-level systems engineering and technical advisory support across the full acquisition lifecycle.
• Develop, decompose, validate, verify, and maintain requirements, technical baselines, interfaces, and configuration control.
• Lead system-of-systems engineering and integration across space, ground, launch, communications, and mission-support segments.
• Support MBSE, Digital Engineering, mission-thread analysis, technical reviews, readiness assessments, and risk mitigation.
• Support launch integration, early orbit operations, on-orbit checkout, operational readiness, and transition to sustainment.
• Coordinate with government, contractor, operational, intelligence, and industry stakeholders; prepare technical assessments, briefings, decision papers, and acquisition documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 15 years of relevant aerospace, space systems, defense acquisition, or systems engineering experience.
• Experience supporting Department of Defense or Space Force acquisition programs and working with space, missile warning, missile defense, satellite, ground, or mission operations systems.
• Experience with requirements management, technical baseline management, systems integration, verification and validation, and risk management.
• U.S. citizenship and an active DoD security clearance are required; the posting specifies active Top Secret clearance, while the qualifications section states Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.
• Availability for occasional travel of approximately 10% and ability to work effectively with government, contractor, operational, and senior leadership stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Supervisory or team-lead experience, including multidisciplinary engineering leadership and mentoring.
• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
• Experience with SSC, Missile Warning, OPIR, SBIRS, FORGE, launch integration, on-orbit operations, ground segment integration, sensor fusion, or TCPED processes.
• Experience with MBSE, Digital Engineering, Agile development, DevSecOps, and model-based mission assurance.
• Active TS/SCI clearance and familiarity with applicable DoD, Air Force, space safety, cybersecurity, and acquisition standards.
