Principal Engineer, SoC NPU Architect (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, USA; office-based role

Base pay: $242,500–$376,650 USD annually, with annual bonus eligibility and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead NPU subsystem architecture, interfaces, performance analysis, and power trade-offs for next-generation SoCs.
• Propose architectural and microarchitectural features to improve performance, power, and area across targeted workloads.
• Develop cycle-accurate and analytical performance and functional models, simulations, and silicon correlation analyses.
• Analyze benchmarks, applications, CNN and LLM workloads, and AI use cases for NPU mapping and optimization.
• Co-design hardware and software architectures for low-power, high-performance systems.
• Document and communicate architecture proposals across hardware, software, driver, OS, system, and technology leadership teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, a related science, or equivalent experience.
• 16+ years of experience in NPU architecture and development.
• Hands-on experience developing cycle-accurate performance and functional models.
• Strong knowledge of CNN and LLM models and experience with machine learning frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, or ONNX.
• Proficiency in Python, SystemC, and/or C++, with experience in SoC microarchitecture, interfaces, and logic modules.
• Experience with memory subsystems, prefetching, multi-core systems, memory coherency, or AI model optimization on GPU architectures.

Nice to have

• Performance and power modeling experience with Platform Architect.
• Experience mapping AI use cases to IP blocks.
