Engineering Manager (Hardware & Site Engineering)

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States; the role owns site engineering across North America.

Salary: $208,000–$289,000 per year in the United States, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead multidisciplinary mechanical, electrical, firmware, embedded software, and systems engineering teams developing data capture hardware.
• Own studio systems with multi-camera arrays, controlled lighting, synchronization, high-bandwidth ingest, and storage infrastructure.
• Develop wearable and in-the-wild systems with integrated cameras, sensors, compute, repeatable fit, transportability, and field serviceability.
• Translate research roadmaps into system requirements, define capture strategies, and balance data quality, scale, cost, and deployability.
• Lead design reviews, prototyping, testing, root-cause analysis, reusable platforms, and technical improvements.
• Build and manage site engineering teams, deployments, inventory, logistics, maintenance, calibration, validation, privacy compliance, and participant safety across North America.

Requirements

• BS or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of hardware engineering experience across electrical, mechanical, embedded software, systems engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of leadership and people management experience in medium- to large-scale organizations.
• Experience shipping consumer hardware or working in technology R&D, including schematic capture, PCB layout, assembly, and advanced systems development.
• Expertise in camera systems, structured lighting, PTP/genlock synchronization, high-speed data ingest and storage, wearable devices, and complex data capture systems.
• Experience with multi-site technical operations, distributed teams, vendor partnerships, field deployment, privacy and data compliance, and participant safety.

Nice to have

• Experience with AR/VR headsets, smart glasses, motion capture, photogrammetry, biometric sensing, or health and medical devices.
• Knowledge of I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, Ethernet, PCIe, NVMe, and other high-speed interfaces.
• Experience with NX or SolidWorks, physical prototyping, embedded computing, CM and EMS partners, or research hardware.
