TL;DR
Staff Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing flight-test ground control station and airborne communications systems for an autonomous passenger-carrying eVTOL service with an accent on safety-critical architectures, aircraft-to-ground data exchange, and aviation compliance. Focus on defining system requirements, integrating hardware and software interfaces, executing verification and testing, and supporting FAA and EASA regulatory compliance.

Location: Hybrid, with onsite work at the Hollister office 3 days per week and flexibility for the remaining days. The role requires 10% travel.

Salary: $167,000–$208,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design and develop safety-critical and non-safety-critical hardware and software for the Flight Test Ground Control Station and Airborne Communications Systems.
  • Define system functions, architectures, requirements, interfaces, and integration strategies for the Wisk Gen 6 flight test campaign.
  • Develop, maintain, and release systems engineering artifacts, including operating manuals, ICDs, test procedures, and test results.
  • Define and execute technical solutions and cross-project integrations with flight test, software development, and external partners.
  • Lead architecture trade studies balancing stakeholder needs with performance, size, weight, power, and safety requirements.
  • Help define safety-critical system architectures supporting compliance with FAA and EASA regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or an equivalent qualification, with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in aircraft, avionics, autonomous vehicles, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Experience with requirements verification, hardware and software testing, debugging, schematics, and system requirements through customer release.
  • Strong understanding of aviation documentation standards, including manuals, CONOPS, ICDs, and test documentation.
  • Familiarity with GitLab, Polarion, Teamcenter, agile development, and FAA-certified systems.
  • Familiarity with ARP4754A, DO-160, DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4761, Part 23/25, AC XX.1309, or similar standards.
