Principal DevOps Engineer (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: Remote within the United States, with consideration for candidates in specified U.S. states or Canada. Priority is given to candidates near Grand Rapids, MI, Denver, or Chicago; candidates outside the listed states and Canada cannot be considered.

Salary: $155,000–$180,000 per year

What you will do

• Architect, manage, and scale AWS EKS clusters and the Kubernetes platform.
• Build and maintain Helm charts and standardized application deployment workflows.
• Manage reproducible AWS infrastructure with Terraform and Terragrunt.
• Monitor AWS usage, optimize cloud costs, and maintain reliable, observable systems.
• Enforce least-privilege IAM, secure networking, secrets management, and cloud security practices.
• Lead cross-team infrastructure initiatives and mentor engineers on DevOps practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of DevOps, infrastructure, or SRE experience, including 2+ years in a senior or principal-level role.
• Deep AWS experience, including EKS, EC2, IAM, VPC, and S3.
• Expert production Kubernetes knowledge and strong Helm experience.
• Hands-on Terraform and Terragrunt experience.
• Experience with Bash, Python, or Go scripting and GitOps workflows such as Argo CD.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, networking, cloud security, AWS cost optimization, communication, and technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated or high-compliance environments such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or PCI.
• Experience with the LGTM monitoring stack.
• Familiarity with Karpenter, ExternalDNS, or the EBS CSI driver.
• Open-source or DevOps community contributions.
