TL;DR
Engineer - Grid Operations Technology (Hybrid Schedule) (DMS/SCADA/grid modernization): Supporting and enhancing electric distribution network modeling tools, including DMS and Synergi Electric, to optimize safe, reliable, and resilient grid operations with an accent on advanced distribution applications, DER integration, and control-room support. Focus on configuring FLISR, LVM, AFR, and scheduling functions, developing engineering data models, and coordinating complex grid modernization programs across multidisciplinary teams.

Location: Dorchester, Massachusetts, United States. Hybrid schedule with at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays; employees must be able to work up to five days in the office when required. Occasional travel throughout the service territory and weekend or off-hours control-room support may be required.

Annual salary: $100,490–$111,660, with potential incentive eligibility.

What you will do

  • Support electric system operators by optimizing distribution networks through DMS advanced applications, including AFR, LVM, planned outage studies, and DER/load forecasting.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var Optimization, and load shedding.
  • Specify, configure, maintain, and enhance DMS functionality in collaboration with control centers, IT, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Develop project approval documentation covering technical solutions, alternatives, risks, budgets, and schedules.
  • Research grid modernization technologies, assess their operational value, and communicate relevant initiatives in industry forums.
  • Develop tools and methods to process multi-source data and design or verify engineering models and databases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • At least three years of experience; electrical utility industry experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of load flow, voltage regulation, power factor, losses, load and generation modeling, and electric distribution systems.
  • Experience with DMS, OMS, GIS, SCADA, EMS, Synergi or CYME, plus basic knowledge of SCADA communication protocols such as DNP.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets, solve complex problems, prepare technical documentation, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
