TL;DR
Operations Engineer Sr - Event Analysis (Power Systems): Conducting engineering event analysis and reviewing transmission, renewable generation, and conventional generation performance across the Texas power grid with an accent on PMU, DFR, SCADA, and power system data. Focus on analyzing large datasets, developing monitoring tools and procedures, coordinating with grid operators and stakeholders, and presenting reliability findings and recommendations.

Location: Taylor, Texas, United States; hybrid schedule with on-site work required at least 2 days per week. Remote work must be performed from a Texas residence.

Salary: $109,000–$150,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Conduct engineering event analysis and review the performance of transmission systems, inverter-based renewable resources, and conventional generation resources.
  • Coordinate with generation resources and transmission owners or operators to obtain, analyze, and review PMU and digital fault recorder data.
  • Provide electrical engineering analysis and technical support for power system planning and operations.
  • Develop software tools, procedures, and monitoring processes that improve system reliability and organizational efficiency.
  • Prepare findings, recommendations, stakeholder reports, and internal or external presentations.
  • Participate in multifunctional teams, system changes, stakeholder meetings, and industry regulatory discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or in a similar role within the electric utility industry.
  • Familiarity with the electric utility industry and the ability to work independently on engineering assignments.
  • Expert use of power system software, spreadsheet applications, and database programs.
  • Ability to work on-site in Taylor, Texas at least 2 days per week; remote work is limited to a Texas residence.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer certification.
  • Familiarity with the hirify.global system.
  • Experience with power flow software, SCADA, PMU, or DFR data.
  • Experience with large datasets, database queries, SQL, and coding.
