Cloud Engineer (AWS)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; U.S. citizenship required. Public Trust Clearance must be obtainable and maintainable. Preference is given to candidates local to the Washington, DC metro area.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, and deploy secure, scalable, highly available AWS infrastructure and application services.
• Build and operate Kubernetes-based containerized services, including deployments, configuration, service discovery, and controlled upgrades.
• Develop repeatable Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD workflows with automated testing, validation, and environment promotion.
• Integrate APIs, structured data sources, and message or event flows while preserving data integrity, provenance, access controls, and handling metadata.
• Apply cloud security controls across identity, networking, encryption, secrets, logging, vulnerability management, and least-privilege access.
• Monitor and troubleshoot distributed systems, resolve root causes, collaborate with technical and customer stakeholders, and maintain architecture notes and runbooks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a related discipline, plus at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing, deploying, and operating scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant AWS systems using services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker or OCI images, deployments, services, ingress, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, AWS networking, and cloud security controls in restricted or compliance-oriented environments.
• Ability to diagnose distributed-system failures using logs, metrics, and traces and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with data integration, JSON, XML, EKS, ECR, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Secrets Manager, KMS, Kafka, or MSK.
• Familiarity with GitOps, policy as code, automated security scanning, software supply-chain controls, and repeatable deployment practices.
• Experience in segmented or limited-connectivity environments with strict access controls and formal change management.
• C3.ai experience, an active Public Trust Clearance, or an AWS certification such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Security Specialty.
