TL;DR
Principal Power Electronics Engineer (EV Charging): Designing high-power AC and DC systems, converters, and grid-tie inverters for consumer and commercial EV chargers with an accent on multi-level topologies, embedded digital control, thermal design, and regulatory compliance. Focus on developing 40–100 kW and 100–200 kW power conversion systems, solving cross-domain engineering challenges, and ensuring long-term product reliability under stress conditions.

Location: Campbell, California, United States

Base salary: $290,000–$333,500 per year, plus eligible RSU grants and annual merit-based RSU grants.

What you will do

  • Architect and design high-power AC and DC systems for consumer and commercial EV chargers.
  • Develop AC-to-DC and DC-to-DC converters, including soft-switching 40–100 kW multi-level converters up to 2000 VDC.
  • Design 100–200 kW, up to 2000 VDC, four-quadrant grid-tie inverters compliant with EU and North American grid-interactive regulations.
  • Own product design activities including modelling, component selection, schematics, PCB layout, code development, magnetics, thermal design, regulatory compliance, and DFM.
  • Apply LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, flyback, forward, multi-level converter, and single- and three-phase PFC topologies with ZVS/ZCS techniques.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and test teams to resolve architectural, laboratory, validation, and production challenges and ensure product reliability.

Requirements

  • M.S. degree in electrical, computer, or electronics engineering required; PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience bringing power electronics products to market.
  • Strong electrical and electronic design skills with an understanding of system-level engineering tradeoffs.
  • Experience designing AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion systems.
  • Experience driving solutions across software, mechanical, power, and thermal engineering boundaries.
  • Current knowledge of industry standards for consumer and industrial products; some travel is expected.
