TL;DR
Senior / Staff Power Electronics Engineer (Cryopreservation): Building high-voltage, high-current, MHz-frequency power electronics for organ-scale reversible cryopreservation and rewarming with an accent on resonant power conversion, impedance matching, electromagnetic structures, and thermal management. Focus on architecting novel converter topologies, validating high-energy hardware in the lab, and solving insulation, safety, RF, and system-level performance challenges.

Location: Bay Area, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global is developing organ-scale reversible cryopreservation technology to preserve donated organs at subzero temperatures and rewarm them uniformly for transplantation.

What you will do

  • Own power electronics hardware development for rewarming systems from architecture and modeling through prototyping, validation, and iteration.
  • Architect power converter topologies, high-Q resonant networks, impedance matching systems, and electromagnetic structures.
  • Lead tradeoff studies across frequency, voltage, current, insulation, thermal management, manufacturability, and safety.
  • Prototype, test, and debug high-voltage, high-current, MHz-frequency hardware and instrumentation in the laboratory.
  • Design and safely operate laboratory infrastructure for validating high-energy systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, physicists, and cryobiologists on whole-organ and whole-body rewarming systems.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of power electronics, electromagnetics, and analog circuit design through both first-principles theory and practical implementation.
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience designing, building, and validating high-reliability, high-energy power systems, or an equivalent advanced degree and track record.
  • Experience with high-frequency, high-voltage converter design, semiconductor selection including SiC and GaN, parasitic mitigation, impedance matching, shielding, and EMI/EMC.
  • Strong laboratory skills with high-voltage, high-current, and high-bandwidth instrumentation, including safe bring-up and debugging of high-energy systems.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as SPICE, PSIM, or ANSYS Maxwell for power-electronic, electromagnetic, and thermal modeling.
  • Exceptional engineering judgment, autonomy, and experience across the full hardware stack.

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-energy RF power delivery, impedance matching, plasma processing, RF generators, EV power converters, induction heating, or pulsed-power systems.
  • Experience with medium-to-high-voltage isolation, creepage and clearance, dielectric materials, partial-discharge mitigation, breakdown testing, and arc-flash safety.
  • Experience designing high-Q resonant tanks, matching networks, or high-power MHz-frequency systems.
  • Experience with thermal design, liquid cooling, calorimetry, and multiphysics tradeoffs.
  • Experience leading or mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time, on-site role on a small, fast-paced interdisciplinary team.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible time off, paid holidays, and a 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • FSA, commuter benefits, daily meals, snacks, and a monthly learning stipend.
  • On-site fitness center and quarterly team social budget.
  • Competitive compensation package including salary and equity.
