Summer 2027 Internship - Optical Engineering

Location: Denver, Colorado; full-time on-site work required for the 12-week internship

Salary: $25–$35 per hour, based on academic level

hirify.global develops laser-driven inertial fusion energy systems and aims to deploy commercial fusion power plants for global decarbonization.

What you will do

• Design and develop laser-driven inertial fusion hardware and software.
• Work with an industry mentor on complex engineering challenges in optics, structures, mechanisms, pulsed power, computational engineering, plasma physics, and manufacturing.
• Contribute to mechanical, thermal, electrical, control systems, nuclear, optical, plasma physics, or computational engineering projects.
• Apply technical skills to real-world development of systems for a commercial fusion energy power plant.
• Support engineering quality, problem-solving, simulation, and hardware development activities.

Requirements

• Enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, nuclear engineering, or a related discipline.
• Technical experience outside the classroom through projects, laboratory research, volunteering, internships, or work experience.
• Proficiency with CAD software for 3D modeling and simulation.
• Strong written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for fusion energy and the ability to work full-time on-site in Denver throughout the 12-week program.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a refugee or asylee.
